The Gai Waterhouse-trained filly Carriages began brilliantly, went straight to the lead, and then ran along at a brisk pace. She fought back well when challenged half-way down the straight and then drew away again to score decisively by two lengths in an impressive front-running display. The favourite Prompt Return settled nicely in second place, appeared to be travelling strongly as he moved up rounding the turn, but was suddenly under pressure at the 200m and then fought on to take second, finding the winner too nippy. Moral Outrage settled back in fifth place, improved under riding on turning for home and then battled on quite well to take third. The second favourite Our Trieste did not show any early pace and settled well back in second last place in the seven-horse field and remained there to the 600m. He then kept making ground in the straight to just miss the minor placing in a photo for (4.1 lengths) fourth. He should appreciate stepping up to longer distances finding today’s 1000m far too short.
