The Michael Freedman-trained, Arrowfield-raced filly Teaspoon put up a promising effort in winning here on debut. She showed good early pace to lead and then travelled well at quite a reasonable tempo before getting a break on straightening. She then fought back gamely when challenged to win well. The well-supported favourite, also racing on debut, Milanese Girl was a bit slow to move but soon recovered to settle in third place on the rails. She moved up (three wide and under riding) nearing the home turn, challenged at the 100m and kept battling on well for second, looking suited to further. The Mark Newnham-trained colt Ipso Facto showed good pace from barrier seven and soon crossed to race outside the leader (Teaspoon). He then kept battling on in good style for third in a sound debut effort.
