The German import Pakal was most impressive. He travelled along well in fourth place, following a moderate early pace. He moved up nicely, three wide, rounding the home turn and dashed clear passing the 200m. He then went right away to score easily by six lengths. It was only his second Australian start and he looks set for a good career for the Mick Price stable, especially over longer distances. Alpha Proxima led the field to the home turn and held on grimly to just hold second, six lengths from the winner. Brian’s Honour raced behind the leader to the turn and battled on for third. *ANZ
