Three-year-old Baron Archer continued to step up in class and maintained his unbeaten record, now winning all three starts. He settled in third place on the rails after beginning well from his inside barrier (1). He moved up to challenge on passing the 300m and dug deep form the 100m to score well by a neck at the post. Running Bull travelled outside the leader (Copernicus), went to the front on turning for home and was only caught in the closing stages for second after running a bold race in blinkers for the first time. The favourite Yesterday’s Songs was a bit slowly away from his wide barrier (10), settled well back in 11th place and was about ten lengths from the leader at the 800m. He switched deep rounding the home turn and made good ground, despite hanging in on occasions in the straight, for a sound third. Pyrrolic was seventh on the rails, moved to fourth at the 200m and battled on, holding that position to the post to finish (2.8 lengths) fourth. *ANZ
