Godolphin’s import Bow Creek, having his second run in his second preparation since coming to Australia last year, but up a very smart performance in scoring. He was badly away and a clear last before improving to settle in ninth place on the rails. Damien Oliver steered him along the rails nearing the home turn, switched back to the inner at the 200m. He then dashed clear on passing the 100m to win impressively. Fenway settled in fifth place, between runners, got a split on straightening, challenged at the 100m and then fought well for a good second, although having no chance with the winner. Mourinho went to the front, set a good pace and held the front until nearing the 100m and held on well for a good third. Awesome Rock made a wide early move to race outside the leader and fought on well in the straight for (2.3 lengths) fourth. Our Ivanhowe was seventh on the rails, improved between running at the home turn but was blocked most of the way in the straight and went to the post an untested (2.5 lengths) fifth, in an unlucky and very promising first-up run. Rising Romance settled near last on the rails, switched between runners on turning for home and only got clear running at a late stage for (3.3 lengths) sixth, also looking unlucky.
