General Jackson began very quickly from his inside barrier (1) and held the lead, going at a good tempo. He was challenged rounding the home turn and fought back gamely for a good first-up win. Super One, unbeaten in four starts in Singapore, was smartly away and raced outside the leader. He challenged on straightening but was held by his older rival for a sound second at his Australian debut. Top weight (59kg) It Is Written was well back to the home turn and ran on strongly for a late-closing third, putting up a good effort. Fourth-placed Tudor looked most unlucky. He began well raced behind the leader, was travelling well in the straight but was unable to get clear running and went to the post untested.
