Travel Associates Classic (LR)
The lightly raced four-year-old mare Lady Echelon has now raced nine times for five wins and she scored a good first-up victory here in the Heavy 8 conditions. She began well from her inside barrier before Tim Bell eased her to enjoy a good trip in third spot on the rails. She moved through to challenge as the field fanned wide at the home turn. She got to a clear lead passing the 100m then fought back to win narrowly but well. Jacquetta was about fifth, wide-out, and continued to race deep, before moving up to take the lead shortly after turning for home. She kept fighting back well on the way to the post for a good second, beaten a head. The top weight (58.5kg) Doubtfilly was well back in ninth place in the 12-horse field to the home turn. She switched across heels passing the 300m and ran on very well for a late-closing third, beaten a little over half a length. The favourite Discreet ($3.30) who finished eleventh and second favourite Liesele ($5) who finished ninth, never looked likely at any stage, both appearing to be affected by the Heavy 8 conditions. *ANZ
