Steel Zip put up a really good effort to score. He did not show any early pace and settled in tenth place on the rails from his inside barrier (1). He was still conceding the leaders about seven lengths at the 600m, got through to fifth (under riding) at the 200m and then finished brilliantly in the closing stages to grab a narrow but impressive win. Top Zone had a good trip in third place on the rails, raced through on the inner at the 300m and looked a certain winner when still well clear at the 100m only to be caught on the post for very close second. Saluter raced outside the leader (Whiskey Allround) to the home turn and kept fighting on in the straight to take the minor placing. Gundy Spirit made late ground for (2.9 lengths) fourth while the leader Whiskey Allround weakened for fifth. The 2014 Queensland Oaks (Gr 1, 2400m) winner Tinto was about sixth, between runners and failed to get clear running in the straight, finishing (3.3 lengths) seventh in a sound first-up effort.
