The Toby Edmonds-trained three-year-old gelding Whypeeo has now raced six times for four wins a er taking out his first stakes success here. Having his second run this preparation, he began quickly, went to the front and set quite a reasonable pace (first 600m 35.46 ). He dashed clear on turning for home and then held on to win well, sprinting home his last 600m in a quick 33.86. The favourite Pierata settled in fi h place, between runners, before improving to second on straightening. He then kept making ground on the winner in the sprint home, getting to within a short neck for a good second. Shogun Sun, who was resuming a er racing well in Sydney in the autumn, raced back in ninth place and made good ground along the rails in the straight for third in a promising first up effort.
