Analysis: Paul Perry-trained colt Perast, winner of the Caulfield Guineas Prelude (Gr 3, 1400m) last preparation, returned to form at his fourth run this preparation, staging a smart effort in winning here. He was quickly away and soon crossed to the front. He then set a solid pace, held a good break on turning for home and went on to win well. The favourite Marsupial had a good trip in third place, on the rails, got through on the inner to be second at the home turn and kept fighting on to hold that position after seeming to have had every chance. Mishani Bullitt settled in sixth place, got between runners at the home turn, went to third at the 200m and kept battling on nicely to hold the minor placing.
