Centenary Mercedes-Benz Mile (LR)
Fire Up Fifi was well away and was handy early but she was in danger of being shuffled back as the pace slackened and Damien Browne quickly summed up the situation and took her to the front at the 800m. She held the lead to the 300m then had a great battle (with Conservatorium) to win gamely being assisted with her 4.5kg advantage over her rival to score by a half neck. Conservatorium was handily placed on the rails and drove through on the inside to hold the lead at 1200m. He then raced in second place before coming outside the new leader (Fire up Fifi) at the 700m. He challenged strongly at the 300m and then fought on gamely to fail narrowly for a very good second with his top weight (60.5kg). Someday raced in seventh place one off the rails, following a moderate pace (first 1000m 62.74). He was pushed back to last in the nine-horse field at the turn before getting a run in the centre from the 300m. He then made up good ground in the sprint home for a sound third. *ANZ
