Henry Bucks Sires Produce Stks (G2)

Age: 2yo Type: OPEN

The promising Bjorn Baker-trained filly Twilight Royale stepped up another grade with a good win in this Group Two event. She settled midfield on the rails before Michael Rodd skilfully eased across heels at the 400m, where she was about five lengths from the leader (Weinholt). The consistent filly came with a well-timed run to get to the front at the 100m, before digging in for a narrow but impressive win. Shamus Award was about seventh one off the rails passing the 800m, got a nice split at the 400m, getting to a narrow lead at the 200m then fighting gamely for a good second, failing by only a short neck. The David Hayes-trained Great Esteem, having only his second start, was twelfth at the 800m, gradually getting into the clear at the 300m, then making up good ground over the closing stages for third, putting up a most encouraging effort. Northern Jewel was past midfield to the turn. He got a split passing the 300m and continued to run on for a sound fourth while the SA-trained Gamblin’ Guru was handily placed sixth but wide before battling on for a good fifth. *ANZ
