Bagot Hcp (LR)
Outback Joe settled in a nice spot, eighth one off the rails following a good tempo in the early stages. He improved well three deep as the pace slackened passing the 1200m and con tinued to move up, still three deep, to challenge strongly approach ing the home turn. He drew clear at the 300m and went on to score by just over two lengths, staging a strong staying effort after racing wide for a good part of the trip to win impressively, being nicely rated by Oisin Murphy. Top weight Hurdy Gurdy Man (60kg) raced in last place in the 13-horse field before improving between runners at the 800m. He switched deep nearing the home turn and was about eighth on straightening. He got into the clear at the 400m, put in a quick run going to second at the 150m but then found the winner too good at the weights (conceding him 6kg) for a game second. Angola raced outside the leader (Thubi aan) most of the way to the home turn. He took a narrow lead at the 400m and then battled on for distant third, beaten just under seven lengths. The favourite Unchain My Heart ($3.75) raced mid field on the rails from her inside barrier (1) but was shuffled back to second last at the 600m. She gradually worked into the clear on passing the 300m and ran on fairly well late to take distant fourth, without really looking a winning threat at any stage.
