Bugatty ($1.75 favourite) followed up his promising debut second at Moonee Valley on 28 December with a good win here. He began well and travelled nicely on the rails, inside the leader (Turfane), following a very moderate early tempo (first 400m 25.90). Glen Boss asked the colt to sprint passing 300m and he responded well and went on to score a soft length win at the post, dashing home in a smart 33.35 (last 600m). The Peter Moody-trained Ducal Castle did well on debut. He was ridden quietly in fourth spot, showed a good turn of foot to challenge strongly at the 200m then battled on nicely for second. Lotion was just in behind the leaders in third place, put in a run passing the 300m and held on quite well for third, beaten two and half lengths. *ANZ
