In form four-year-old Danger Close scored his third straight win, stepping up in class here. Craig Newitt rode him quietly, settling last in the nine-horse field, following a good pace. He got a split at the 200m and came with a quick late burst to win by a short head. Three-year-old Lord Of The Sky showed his renowned pace but was shaded for the lead by Fab Favola and was under pressure from the 300m. But he still kept fighting back gamely for a close second, putting up a promising effort at his first run this preparation. Fab Favola held a narrow lead most of the way and looked the winner at the 100m, only to be run down nearing the post to finish third in a three-way photo. *ANZ
