Supido scored a dominant win over 1200m at his first start since 19 February. He settled third, but was virtually leading the middle pack with one leader on the fence while the other was closer to the grandstand side of the straight. He travelled comfortably and quickened nicely when asked at the 300m, unleashing his customary turn of foot to win impressively by one and three quarter lengths. Illustrious Lad settled worse than midfield with cover before easing out to be the widest runner and finishing strongest of the chasers to grab second, backing up his excellent last start win in Adelaide. Staviva settled second last of the 13 runners and came with a similar run to Illustrious Lad, heading him late, but having to make the longer run told late, wilting slightly to finish third.
