Darren Weir-trained Perpetual Crisis was a surprise winner at $41, his third win in nine starts. At his second run this preparation, he settled just behind a packed leading group, tracking a steady early pace before switching back, then racing closest to the rails side (where most riders were avoiding). He got to a narrow lead at the 50m and then battled gamely for a good win. Ebenos raced close to the leaders (racing in the centre of the track). He got to a narrow lead at the 200m and kept fighting well for a good second. Land Of Plenty was back in the field, improved at the 200m, got a late split at the 100m and finished well, late, for a close up and unlucky third. The favourite Fuhryk raced midfield in the packed group of runners, but was blocked until the 200m. She then came with a strong late run to finish and unlucky (0.8 lengths) fourth.
