The Ciaron Maher-trained colt Ruthven is now unbeaten in two starts following his debut win in a Three-Year-Old Maiden (1300m) at Bendigo on 29 September with another good win here. He settled nicely in third place, but trapped three wide without cover. He moved up well to take the lead at the 200m and then fought back gamely to win proving too good for his older rivals despite a wide trip. It was a smart effort and he looks to have a good future.
