Spurtonic went to the lead and set a slow early tempo (first 1400m 1:30.65). He picked up the pace rounding the home turn, grabbed a break at the 200m and battled on for a good win, sprinting his final 600m in a smart 34.50. Platinum Jack was last in the eight-horse field to the 600m, got a split between runners at the 200m and went to second at the 100m and then fought on nicely for second being unsuited by the sprint home tactics of the race. *ANZ
