The Gong
In a keenly contested finish where the first four horses went to the post less than a length apart, the top weight Mister Sea Wolf staged a solid effort in scoring. He began well and settled in fourth place, was shuffled back a bit nearing the home turn and then eased into clear running on straightening. He took a narrow lead at the 100m and then dug deep to score by a head in a smart performance. Quackerjack staged a good effort. He was sixth early on before improving to be third (three wide). He challenged at the home turn and kept fighting gamely in the straight for second, beaten a head. Star Of The Seas was given a good trip by Glen Boss, racing in seventh place on the rails before taking a split to be in a challenging position at the 200m. He then kept battling on well for a close-up third, finishing narrowly in advance of Military Zone who made ground from 12th for (0.8 lengths) fourth. El Dorado Dreaming was near last to the home turn, improved between runners halfway down the straight and made ground without threatening for (1.3 lengths) fifth while Luvaluva was eighth entering the home turn, went deep at the home turn and steadily made ground to finish (1.6 lengths) sixth.
