Simpson Typhoon Tracy Stakes (G3)
The $101 outsider Written Dash benefitted from a speed duel between flying fillies Sistonic and Eloping in coming from last in the nine-horse field to win. Dean Yendall rode her well, getting a split nearing the home turn, she went through to third at the 100m and then finished well to score by a length. Royal Snitzel settled in fifth place, one off the rails, she moved up approaching the turn and then kept fighting on well for a good second. Matilija was back in eighth place, made a wide run coming to the home turn and continued to fight on nicely for third. The previously unbeaten Sistonic went to the front, held the lead, despite considerable pressure and beat off that bid by Eloping at the 600m and dashed clear nearing the home turn. But those efforts told in the closing stages and she tired for (2.2 lengths) fourth – an excellent effort under the circumstances. Eloping, who also had top weight (58.5kg), weakened to finish (3.6 lengths) seventh after her torrid attempt to find the lead.
