Sweeney Est. Agents Abell Stks (LR)
Bassett is now a winner of both starts since resuming and he did very well in winning his first race at stakes level here, his fourth win in 17 starts to date. He began well from his wide barrier (10) and soon settled outside the leader (Bullrush). He put pressure on that runner from coming to the home turn, went to the front on straightening and then raced away to score most impressively. Reldas had a nice trip from his good barrier (2) racing in third place on the rails before getting through to second shortly after turning for home. He then fought on to hold that position, having no chance with the winner. Well Sprung was last early on after a slow beginning. He then improved along the rails to be eighth at the 600m. He switched deep (under riding) coming to the home turn and then ran on really well, late for a good third, his slow start proving costly. Santa Ana Lane had a good trip in fourth place, one out and one back. He improved (deep) nearing the home turn but just battled on in the straight for fourth after seeming to have had every chance.
