The Victorian visitor Hill Spy ($1.70 favourite) made an impressive debut. He was slowly away and was last in the 12-horse field early on. He improved to ninth on the rails at the 600m and was travelling well but blocked until Michael Walker eased him across heels rounding the home turn. He moved to fifth at the 300m and then finished too well, going away to win by a length at the post. He looks a smart colt. Top weight Exodus was fifth in the early stages and drove through to share the lead, one off the rails. He took the lead approaching the home turn and then fought on well for a good second. Cash Is Coming had a good run, sixth one off the rails, between runners to the 600m. She moved through to third at the turn and battled on quite well in the straight to hold that placing, beaten just under four lengths at the post. *ANZ
