The Darley-raced colt Shikra broke through here for his first win in four starts. He settled just past midfield about tenth, one off the rails. He started a run nearing the home turn, challenged at the 200m and then drew clear for a good win, running the 1500m out well. He looks suited to further and is an improving colt. The John O’Shea-trained colt Prodane was about eighth, one off the rails, improved nicely on turning for home, challenged at the 200m and battled on in good style for an encouraging second at only his second race start. The favourite Saintly Lad ($1.90) led but was very wayward, running about considerably, firstly nearing the turn and again in the straight, before finishing fifth. *ANZ
