Chris Waller-trained imported stayer Carzoff followed his recent win in the Wyong Cup (Listed, 2100m) on Aug 31 with another stakes success in taking out this Group 3 race. He settled back in tenth place, improved nicely (between runners) nearing the home, got a split at the 200m and then ran on gamely to score well. It was also another good ride by Kerrin McEvoy. The top weight (59.5kg) Auvray settled back in eighth place, moved up nicely (deep) coming to the home turn, looked the winner when he took the lead at the 200m but he could not hold off the late-closing winner, whom he conceded 5.5kg for a very good second at this second run this preparation. Just Shine raced in just beyond midfield, on the rails, got along the inner on straightening, was in a handy place at the 200m and then battled well to take the minor placing. Goathland settled nicely in fifth place, improved well (deep) rounding the home turn, challenged at the 200m and then battled on quite well for fourth, beaten two lengths.
