The oldest runner in the race and winner of this race four years ago, Riziz gave his rivals a galloping lesson with a good win here. He settled midfield but wide from barrier ten and remained deep around the tight bend and into the straight where he wound up widest starting the run home. With good momentum he sprinted hard and ranged up to take over inside the 100m then drew clear to win well by a length and a quarter. Tarco was fifth, five wide, turning in, led at the 200m and put up a good tussle but was unable to withstand the winner's stronger finish. Bay Road was second turning in, led briefly into the straight and kept fighting on for third from Shaf who also battled away for fourth.
