Inglis Nursery
The Rodney Northam-trained colt Odyssey Moon put up a good effort to win here on debut. He was very smartly away from his wide barrier (14) and raced deep in fifth place to the home turn. He was under pressure on straightening but rallied well on passing the 200m and came with a solid, late run to score by a neck, putting up a good performance. He also looks suited to stepping up in distance. Kimberley Star, a filly from the Gai Waterhouse stable, was also quickly away and raced in fourth place (three deep) to the home turn. She challenged strongly at the 200m and fought gamely for a good (neck) second. The favourite Let’s Make It Rain raced in third place, between runners, and looked the winner when he took the lead at the 200m. But he wilted slightly over the latter stages, battling on for third, beaten just over a length. The Bjorn Baker-trained Dane Slugger ran on well from eighth at the turn to finish (two lengths) fourth, going quite well on debut. The second favourite, the Queensland-trained filly Hot Snippety showed good pace and worked to retain the lead on the rails to the turn but then disappointed, dropping out to finish (8.6 lengths) thirteenth.
