Handsome Godolphin-raced colt Astern made a most impressive winning debut. He began smartly and soon drove through to retain the lead, being pressured to a degree in the mid-stages before moving clear at the 300m. He then went on for a strong win, seeming to score with plenty in hand. He looks a well-mannered and classy colt with a very bright future. Niccolance raced back in fourth place before putting in a run from the 300m. He then raced very greenly (racing on debut), veering deep on the track but still managed to fight on for second. He is obviously inexperienced but is clearly talented. Favourite Regimental Force enjoyed a good trip in third place, tracking the leading pair. He momentarily looked a threat on straightening but failed to run on as anticipated and battled on to hold third.
