Patinack Silver Slipper Stakes (G2)
The Magic Millions 2YO Classic (LR, 1200m) runner-up Sweet Idea confirmed the value of that form with a good win. Having her first run since that Gold Coast race on 12 January, she was third early and being urged by Jim Cassidy to keep in touch, chasing the leaders (Kuroshio & All The Talk) who were setting a solid pace in the heavy conditions. Sweet Idea was about sixth lengths from that duo on straightening, and still under riding, but she responded gamely to win narrowly but well. The Queenslander Whiskey Allround was near last on the rails in the 12-horse field to the 600m. He stuck to the rails and got a nice run through at the turn, going to fourth at the 200m and finishing well for a neck second. The Gerald Ryan-trained Charlie Boy settled about eighth and seven lengths from the leaders. He switched very wide rounding the turn and made good ground for third, beaten two lengths. All The Talk applied pressure to Kuroshio all the way before getting to a narrow lead at the 200m but his early efforts told in the final stages and he weakened for fourth. Regimental Pride was a distant sixth on the rails to the 600m and made ground for fifth while the joint leader Kuroshio tired after working hard in the lead for sixth. *ANZ
