Bel Sprinter was again badly away being a clear last on settling. He was almost ten lengths from the leader in second last place at the 600m, before going wide on straightening. He then produced an amazing finishing burst, swept to the lead at the 200m, and ran away for a most impressive first-up win scoring by just over three lengths in fast time. The three-year-old filly Snitzerland had to work hard from her barrier (8), crossed to the lead at the 700m but was then pressured in front. She had no chance with the winner’s late run at the 200m but did extremely well to fight on for second after working so much in the early stages. Decision Time was about seventh, moved up wide with cover from the 600m and kept fighting on quite well in the straight for third. Dystopia was about eighth on the rails, got a split between runners at the 200m, and ran on for fourth without threatening. Last year’s winner Temple Of Boom was midfield between runners and got into the clear passing the 200m and made ground for fifth. The second favourite Sea Siren was third on the rails to the turn but tired for eighth. It was her first run since racing in Hong Kong in December, she looked a bit big in condition and should be improved by the run. *ANZ
