Golden Rose Stakes (G1)

Age: 3yo Type: OPEN

Zoustar was eased from his outside barrier (16) and was second last in the early stages. He travelled well three wide with cover from the 800m and continued to make ground before switching very wide on turning for home. He put in a quick run at the 300m, hit the lead at the 200m and then fought gamely for a narrow but impressive win. Dissident went forward from his wide barrier (14) and was trapped three with without cover in about fourth place. He took the lead nearing the 300m and fought back particularly well for a very good second after a difficult trip. Bull Point staged a remarkable performance. He was slowly away and was a detached last early on but he then continued to lose ground, despite being urged to improve. He was a distant last, under riding at the 800m, but travelled a little better nearing the turn. He then made up considerable ground to get third, beaten two lengths, coming with an eye-catching late run. Sidestep was about ninth between runners and raced ungenerously in stages. He got into the clear passing the 300m and made up ground, without threatening, for a sound fourth. Prince Harada was shuffled back along the rails from his inside barrier (1) and was midfield at the turn, between runners. He finished well over the latter stages, making up good ground for fifth, without really looking a winning chance. Eurozone had a good run about seventh between runners and held on for sixth, while Thermal Current was handy on the rails and held on for seventh. Cluster was prominent to the 600m, made a run on turning for home then battled for eighth, beaten three and half lengths. Drago was near last to the turn, switched wide at the 300m and ran on, one-paced, for ninth and is looking for longer. Fast ‘N’ Rocking was about seventh on the rails to the turn but only plugged on in the straight to finish tenth beaten five lengths. *ANZ
