Alemlube Starlight Stakes (LR)
The speedy Zaratone went straight to the lead and settled nicely in front, steading the early tempo before sprinting hard coming to the 600m point. He had a clear break on straightening, briefly looked in danger at the 200m but came away to win by almost two lengths, recording a smart 33.95 for the final 600m. The favourite Heart Testa ($1.80) had a good run in third place on the rails before going through to second on straightening. He looked the winner at the 200m but was safely held by the Zaratone in the closing stages to finish second. Safeguard was fifth on the rails and was giving the leader about six lengths when urged to improve rounding the home turn. He kept fighting on quite well in the sprint home to take third, without looking a winning threat in the straight. Master Harry showed good pace and raced in second place to the home turn and held on to take fourth, beaten just under four lengths while Jacquinot Bay caught the eye running on nicely from a distant seventh at the turn to finish fifth, beaten four and quarter lengths, in a very nice first-up run. *ANZ
