Smart colt Nostradamus staged an impressive first-up performance. He was first away, then eased to settle back in fourth place, one off the rails, following a good pace. He was giving the leader about five lengths on turning for home, put in a good run at the 300m, hit the lead at the 100m and went on to score with something in hand. The lightly raced colt Washington Heights settled back in sixth place on the rails from his inside barrier (1), travelling comfortably. He improved along the rails rounding the home turn, made good ground to challenge at the 100m and then fought on well for a good first-up second. He looks suited to further and should continue to improve. Law, having his first start for the Chris Waller stable, was ridden quietly, being eased to settle in last place in the nine-horse field. He was about eight lengths from the leader at the 600m as he improved along the rails. He switched out on straightening and ran on in most encouraging style for an impressive first-up third. Wandjina raced in second place to the home turn and held on fairly well for (2.9 lengths) fourth after seeming to have every chance. Bugatty was a bit slow to move but improved quickly to settle in fifth place. He moved up on turning for home and battled on fairly well for (3.5 lengths) fifth. The filly Ygritte raced in third place on the rails, went to a distant second at the 300m and then just battled on for a first-up (3.9 lengths) sixth. Bold Circle was near last to the turn and steadily made ground to finish (4 lengths) seventh, looking suited to further. Hampton Court (5.2 lengths) eighth, was never a chance while the speedy Sheer Style led, grabbed a big lead on turning for home, but stopped quickly in the latter stages to finish (7.3 lengths) last. *ANZ
