Sweet Redemption jumped best from barrier eight holding more than a length advantage past the 1000m. Rider Brenton Avdulla never moved a muscle until they rounded the last corner then gave the mare shake at the 300m. Still a length clear at the 200m Avdulla got serious and kept his mount up to her work, yet under hands and heels she had enough to hold them all off at the post in a good effort. Hazzabeel was stuck on the rail, four back, before they straightened, got the split at the 400m and ran on well in the straight, especially over the final 50m, but could not get past the winner. Red Excitement was a handy fifth into the last corner, ran up to be second and a likely challenger at the 300m then held on quite well, losing second late.
