Sandown Cup (LR)
After the field settled Almoonqith took up a nice position on the fence, keeping the leaders in view around the first bend and down the home straight with a round to go. Into the far bend, he maintained his position saving ground all the way down the back straight. Starting on the last bend he was shuffled back but kept to the rail until just before the last corner when jockey Michael Walker slid off the fence and waited for a run, which presented itself before the 300 metres. Walker drove him through and put a good break on the field, which proved sufficient to hold on. The Offer had three behind him down the back and made a run three wide around the bend, standing up the leaders eight to ten lengths at the top of the straight, really getting going at the 200 metres but the winner’s break was too much to make up. Grand Marshal raced on The Offer’s inner down the back and never left the fence, waiting for the rails run which opened up at the 400 metres. He finished well but those out wider were doing better at the post.
