Tango Rock was settled at the rear by apprentice rider Jake Bayliss and was nine lengths off the leader when the leader (Makatiti) turned into the straight. Tango Rock was switched the outside with 400m to go and still had a lot to do inside the final 300m. Under a strong ride from Bayliss, the three-year-old colt made strong headway to win by a head in a very tight finish. Divine Mr Artie looked the winner entering the final 100m after staying on strongly in the straight after he was restrained in the early part of the race. He was very unlucky to lose out in an extremely tight finish here.
