Anzac Mile (LR)

WT: 53kg Type: OPEN

The Listed mile field saw a visitor in Gustavo prove too good after sitting wide throughout so no excuses for the rest. Gustavo was fifth or sixth wide throughout but just kept coming and took the front at the 100m and went on to win by half a length in 1:35.83. It was his seventh win in twenty-five starts and showed his consistency at a mile as after today he has run the trip ten times for two wins, seven placings and a fifth (close up in an Open Handicap). The 5yo has won on all types of footing and has natural pace but today showed he could do overtime and still cash in. Gwynethanne came home strongly from the rear duo to grab second on the line and was fresh up so did well considering she was tardy. Endure after trailing fought on strongly for third and did hit the front between the 200m and 100m. Chambord was a super fourth after being tardy and was just half a head and a nose from second place. Cassie Anne ran on solidly for fifth beaten just over a length after settling back and then coming wide across the top. Designated Driver was a brave sixth beaten just under two and a half lengths after being wide third and taking the lead at the 300m. She was still third at the 100m and got swamped late. Wiggle had won at Trentham two days earlier so backed up well here to be a running on seventh while Duffers Creek was finding the line okay. St Ransom was under a ride across the top but boxed on for ninth and is an improver as he can swim once the wet tracks set in. Bel Sorriso was warming up late from the rear duo for a wet track stayer resuming and is in for a big winter. Thorn Prince under the weight on better footing was only getting a second wind late and needs a rain-affected track. Kindaleica had a hard run early and led turning for home before stopping the closing stages unsurprisingly. He can win next time out on wet footing. The rest were poor with Platinum Witness excused as she was showing mild lameness in the right hind leg post race. Gustavo has more wins in store properly placed but will be getting up in the weights again having last won in October. Endure is thriving so will continue her form no matter the footing while Chambord must win another race surely but beginning cleanly is the first thing to sort out. Cassie Anne was good and Designated Driver was super but she can be very hit and miss. Several in this will win more races and the form should be okay as a guide ironically for winter racing as many in this are absolutely aching for wet ground.
