Avisto may have won by less than a length but the filly had this race totally under control for her rider the length of the run home. The time was a farcical 1:29.59 for a Listed 1400m and even though the Ellerslie track was biased and a gluey slow they could not have gone any slower until the home turn. The G3 event held one race later today also for 3yo’s went 1:28.13 (or nine lengths superior) and it was a no pressure contest. The winner of the last event here Moochi Me, a 4yo mare in a Ratings 75, won easily and clocked 1:27.28 (or a staggering thirteen lengths superior to Avisto). Avisto gave her sire Tavistock the blacktype double on the card but both were very sedate run races on a biased puggy slow track with the rail out 10m. He is a deadset rain-affected required and wet weather sire on results so far for sure. Choice and Vavasour ran on and fought on well with the former having some scope while the latter is still a maiden and well bred. The eyecatching effort came from another maiden in Big Dreamer having just her second ever outing to come from the rear and widest turning for home. She has run very well in both outings and looks a filly that will revel in the mile or more as she gains ringcraft. The rest disappointed overall and La Belle Etoile was totally outclassed so she needs to go back to maiden class next. The first four home have degrees of scope but until they race individually or meet again on better footing with no manmade track bias then the two blacktype results today at Ellerslie are meaningless at this point. Wet track form is exactly that so orange and oranges or when the glue or mud is flying then you can gauge something from these events only.
