This G2 3yo mile at set weights was a very modest line up and saw a gelding capture a hattrick in Swissta. He has relished the rise in trip since winning his maiden mid-November and loves a tight finish it seems with the hattrick margins being two necks and a head. Swissta sat second the outer and after taking the lead at the 200m held them all at bay and clocked 1:35.02 for his third win in five outings. Tiptronic led up and fought ever so hard for second and looks to be in for a good rest of the season plus is clearly a better horse when put in the race from the outset. Jon Snow ran a sound third and should be over that G1 gutbuster he had in November after two runs since so can be followed with confidence from now on. Cha Siu Bao ran on well the inner and while best left-handed he showed the clockwise is manageable so it is onwards and upwards. Wehadadeal was a sound enough fifth and would like a stronger run event overall plus is better when put in the race from the outset rather than being ridden quietly or cold. Creative Genius was a fair sixth and needs a stronger race pace while the clear favourite Romancer was a disappointing seventh but likely had several excuses. The footing may have been a bit firm for him or needs the pace strong so he can unleash with more purpose rather than hit a flat spot and get going again too late. The rest were beaten over eight lengths and more with two of them outclassed but Savasava can be forgiven as he was trapped wide the whole way and unsurprisingly felt the strain He had finished seventh at G1 in the Spring over a mile and a rival today Cha Siu Bao had finished fourth in the same race and been six lengths ahead of him. Today the gap was nine lengths so the formline level stacks up in some respect still once factoring in the overland outing for Savasava. Jon Snow ran eighth in that G1 and beat both of them home today but he had a horror wide outing in a fast run race that day so paid the price. There have been two winners out of the race so far in Saville Row (runner up in the G1) that beat the older horses carrying a big weight and Hall Of Fame (tenth beaten twenty-five lengths in the G1) that has won a 3yo race since and also placed third in the event was Wyndspelle that ran fifth in the G1. This was not a genuine G2 field overall and run in a controlled manner with the first three on settling forming the trifecta. In a solidly run race Jon Snow and Cha Siu Bao would likely quinella the event and the likes of Romancer show his real ability too.
