This G3 3yo only at set weights and penalties over 1400m went to Opalescence by three-quarters of a length in 1:23. The filly sat second the outer and led at the 100m to score with relative ease plus she paid over $12 a win. The winners and where they turned for home were third (three-off the inside and length and a half from the leader), sixth (six-off the inside and three lengths from the leader), seventh (four-off the inside and three lengths from the leader), co-leader (three-off the inside), ninth (four-off the inside and six lengths from the leader), second (two-off the inside and three lengths from the leader), third (three-off the inside and a length from the leader), fourth (one-off the inside and two lengths from the leader) and eighth (four-off the inside and four lengths from the leader). Opalescence today was winning her fourth race in ten starts and was scoring her first Blacktype success after a fourth at G2 last season as a juvenile and an eighth at G3 this season back in September. All of her wins have come when either leading or sitting second the outer. Second home and running on well was Jason Belltree, a two-win galloper before this and he is still to miss the top three now in four outings. He ran on strongly from fifth or sixth the outer and came up fourth and deep turning for home. Third home was Explosively, which had won his maiden on debut and today was ridden by an apprentice again but no claims are allowed in Blacktype races. The gelding set the pace and once headed at the 100m wilted a tad for third and was beaten almost three lengths. He lost a hind plate during the running. Fourth home was Perfect Scenario that raced third the outer and fought well to be beaten three lengths. There was then a gap of six and a half lengths from the winner to the maiden Devotioninmotion, which settled in the rear duo the inner. Moana, which started a clear favourite, ran a poor race from fifth the inner and the maiden weakened the run home to be beaten almost seven lengths. Milford, also a maiden, never cleared the rear duo on settling while Run For Cover stopped from the trail on the inner and was last beaten over eight lengths. This was a sub-standard 3yo field for a G3 event and it was summed by the victor being the winningest runner in the field but still paying double figures. The first four turning for home ran those positions and whether this turns out to be a decent from guide is very debatable at this point and was shown more so in the fact a maiden filly Moana ran the clear favourite and flopped.
