This G3 Open Handicap sprint over 1200m saw the least experienced runner by miles in Entriviere start a $1.8 hot favourite and win it courtesy of a good gate. The 4yo mare raced in the trail and popped off turning for home to make the lead at the 300n then went on to score by over a length and a quarter in 1:09.50. The winners and where they came from on the home turn were fourth (six-off the inside and two lengths from the leader), led (one-off the inside and a length clear), tenth (seven-off the inside and five lengths from the leader), third (four-off the inside and half a length from the leader), third (one-off the inside and a length from the leader) and ninth (four-off the inside and three lengths from the leader). Entriviere was having just her fourth start today and it was her first at Blacktype but it made no difference as the inside gate ensured she would not be unlucky. She has now had four runs for three wins and a second and today was the first field of note she has beaten as her prior form were soft kills against runners whose form has not stood up since. The mare has clearly improved a lot for this preparation and she has a big reputation as in all her runs bar one she has started odds on. Second home from the outside gate and paying $70 was Justacanta that has been running well without luck and today carried the same minimum weight of 53kg as the winner. He was ridden an apprentice rider today and after settling down second last and wide improved deep across the top and was the widest runner turning for home. He surged to fourth at the 200m and was third at the 100m before reaching second with 50m to go and it was a sterling effort. The backrunning 7yo gelding has only won five of his forty-four starts and only attempted Blacktype in his last three runs with today being his first placing. Pretty To Sea, also on 53kg, raced sixth the outer then came through to be second at the 200m before being third at the 50m. The 6yo mare has been thereabouts at Group level for quite a while now and she has won up to Listed level but has been placed twice at G3 too. Her win at Listed level saw her that days beat Avantage (a multiple G1 winner) when she carried 5.5kg less and scored by a short neck. Fourth home was the Central Districts leader in Rock 'N' Affair at $68 that wilted once headed. Fifth home was Festivity, a stablemate of the winner, that ran a clear second favourite and raced fourth between runners and was sixth surrounded across the top and then she got held up the run home. The 4yo mare fresh up and having just her sixth start ran on late okay once into clear air the final 100m or so and she was luckless at her first Blacktype outing. She was beaten just over three lengths. Sixth home was Princes Rihanna that settled back and was in the rear duo across the top and was in fact last turning for home. She ran on well to be beaten three and a half lengths. Packing Rockstar after being fifth then third wide battled away for seventh with the Australian bred not disgraced. Next home was Its Destinys Child that ran super considering she was seventh and four-wide early then fifth and as deep across the top to the home turn. She only came to the end of late and was beaten just under four and a half lengths. Rocket Fuel, also an Australian bred, battled away from eighth the outer and then wide across the top to the home turn and it finished ninth. Shezzallmine finished tenth after being last early and then she got angled wide turning for home to pass four rivals. Gino Severini, the Irish bred gelding, is a total forgive after being eased back and tenth surrounded turning for home. He got badly held up at the 150m and is a total forgive. The Australian bred pair of Vigor Winner and Love Squirrels both settled back and never really looked dangers, while the third favourite Julius ran dead last after running at G1 here three weeks prior. The 9yo gelding was wide and working forward early then reached second after 400m to the home turn but was gone soon after and was an eased up to beaten nine lengths at the line. The draw matter in these Group events in New Zealand as he led and ran second in the G1 Railway (120om) here and today from a wide gate and at G3 ran dead last. Most of these sprinters are so so types and when given the right draw and/or run in transit can figure in the finish but almost all of these have had numerous starts. The least experienced runner by miles in Entriviere put them away and grabbed the G3 result as a sprinter on the rise while almost all of these are on the way down. The winner clearly has more to offer and her stablemate Festivity does too but the rest are reliant on draws and trips or are too old now to make a real difference.
