This was a very fast run 1335m Listed 3yo feature on the day due to a couple drag racing clear across the top to the home turn. Querer (sixth home as second favourite beaten six and a half lengths) and Signify (maiden tenth home beaten over twenty lengths) just went hammer and tong clear of the field for too long emptying each other's tanks. Belle Miraaj the winning filly won easily in 1:18.51 and as a reference on the day the next fastest time posted was 1:19.65 in a reasonable strength fillies and mares Ratings 75m event. So the 3yo time was over a second (six lengths superior to older horses) and explains a lot on how some stopped so badly and were beaten out of sight at the line. Belle Miraaj was fresh up having last started when third at G1 in the spring so a good training effort by her preparer Gay Robinson. The big good looking filly also held up the race when slow to load by many minutes and most of her rivals were standing in their stalls for an eternity. Ironically one other held up the start being slow to load too namely Curry Up and she ended up third. After a tardy start Belle Miraaj soon improved the inner then made up ground very quickly and easily into fourth ominously near the home turn. She picked up her rivals at the 100m and strode clear. It was her fourth win in six starts plus the filly has finished third the other two times and her sire Ifraaj is having a good blacktype season with his 3yo crop in particular. The runner up Miss Seton Sands is another strapping filly but with natural speed and she was unlucky. She was midfield the outer then found trouble across the top and had to get going again near the home turn improving. The Australian bred filly by Gonski impressed and the way she got home was testament too her will to win. Third home was Curry Up that was tardy then improved the inside and this was vital considering the pace in the race was relentless across the top. Riding Shotgun ran on late after getting back and needs a roomier venue and not to be as wide for so long. Madam Bentley was disappointing from a handy sit considering her recent form but looking at the drop out rate of those in or near the front early and across the top it is entirely explainable. Querer was gassed, while So Vital a maiden was never ever in it and King’s Violet was very poor indeed. Signify the maiden attacker was showing signs of shin soreness post race and unsurprisingly was totally spent too after gassing Querer and his own chances too. King Kahuna was wide handy early and dropped right away to be beaten almost fifty lengths in what was a bad look as he was lame in the hindquarters post race. The winner Belle Miraaj is a filly with scope for sure as is the runner Miss Seton Star, as they both have size and presence. Riding Shotgun can be forgiven and also Querer (may be just a sprinter).
