The track was a biased bog at New Plymouth today and of the nine races the farthest away any winner was turning for home was fifth and well within striking range too The turning for home order of winners was fifth, fourth, second, second, led, led, led and led, so the inside and on pace bias was colossal. New York Minute, a big bodied mare, soon led in this Listed 1400m and was always a length to two lengths clear reveling in the footing and her work. The outcome was never in doubt as she went three lengths clear at the 200m and held that margin to the line effortlessly under 57.5kg and clocked 1:27.92 to record her eighth win from twenty-four starts. Since joining the all-conquering Murray Baker and Andrew Forsman yard she has won all her three races and now has two Listed successes on her dance card. Her combined winning margin tally in this hattrick is over fifteen lengths for an impressive average of five lengths and of course she adores the wet ground. In two attempts at a mile she has run third at G3 so her new stable will be looking to see if they can get some G2 or preferably G1 form on her resume. The rising 6yo mare has not tried WFA against all comers yet but that looks the pathway in the early Spring especially if the wet weather hangs around for many more months as it usually does in New Zealand. Therefore the G1 1400m at Hastings under WFA conditions on September 1 may well be her holy grail early next season. The G1 1600m at the same venue under WFA three weeks later for the mare will be determined by both how she goes in the 1400m and of course the weather. Sleeping Beauty was second chasing in vain throughout and despite a pull of 4.5kg on the winner could not close on her and in fact lost ground. It was her first try at blacktype however so the Listed second is invaluable for her broodmare career. Tomelilla, a stablemate of the winner, raced third or fourth the inner and ended up a distant third at the line to continue her good formlines this campaign. In her last four runs has now won twice at Listed level and placed twice at that level too. Art Deco was a reasonable but distant fourth and a tardy getaway when second last initially was the end of her hopes looking at the massive track bias all day, so forgiver her when next seen out on a roomier venue. Deals In Heels raced fourth wide and moved up third at the 600m before the effort told when fifth at the line for the stablemate of the winner and third finisher. Nashville ran on okay the inside from last for sixth while the rest either never copped the opposition or weights or the footing. William Wallace ran last beaten over fourteen lengths but was a clear last away and racing out of his grade at this stage so can be forgiven. New York Minute has the size to handle the male gallopers under handicap conditions so now it comes to WFA against all comers as her biggest test to come. A wet Spring, which is almost a given with New Zealand racing now and weather patterns, then as the name of the mare says in the song by Don Henley and The Eagles 'everything can change'.
