The winner of this G3 event over 1400m and comfortably too was the 5yo mare Supreme Heights that set the pace for most of the race and kicked two lengths ahead turning for home. She was winning her sixth race from fifteen starts and today was her third attempt at a Blacktype having finished fourth beaten over eight and a half lengths at Listed level in an Open Handicap and ninth beaten over four lengths at G2 under WFA versus fillies and mares. The winner and where they came from in race order were led (half a length ahead and one-off the fence), fourth (three lengths from the leader and four-off the fence), led (three lengths clear and one-off the fence), second (half a length from the leader and two-off the fence), led (one length ahead and one-off the fence), seventh (three lengths from the leader and eight-off the fence), led (two lengths ahead and one-off the fence), fifth (half a length from the leader and six-off the fence), led (four lengths ahead and one-off the fence) and eleventh (five lengths from the leader and nine-off the inside). Half of the leaders on the day won and three others turned for home in second to fourth, while the farthest one winner came from was five lengths behind turning in and this was the very last race. Supreme Heights clocked 1:27.32 for the 1400m and never looked like being run down on a day that saw half of the ten race card go to leaders on the tricky Heavy10 footing. Four of her six wins have come on Heavy footing so she revelled in the conditions and carried 55.5kg to score by a length and a half. Second home was London Express that after a tardy getaway kicked up fifth the inner and improved third turning for home. She reached second at the 300m and tried hard but the winner was too strong but she did record her first G3 placing having prior had three Blacktype runs for a Listed win as a 2yo and a Listed second as a 3yo filly and a good fifth at G3 also as a 3yo filly. The 5yo mare was fourth up today and thoroughly seasoned having not gone a poor race prior (three runs for a win, a second and a sixth). Third home was a fresh up Ladies First that after an awkward start and being second last on the inner she improved through on the inside across the top and turned for home fifth. The now 8yo mare, which had last raced nineteen months prior, ran a cracker and her G3 placing beaten four lengths goes with her G1 3200m win and two Listed wins. Sweet Clementine ran a sound fourth beaten just over five lengths after getting back on the inner then improving seventh the inside across the top before being angled off and this cost her ground. If she had stayed closer in throughout then surely the 4yo mare would have finished closer as she ran on in the same area to be fifth at the 200m and then fourth at the 100m. She is just a three win mare and was having her tenth start in this and obviously today was her first attempt at any Blacktype event. Almost eight lengths away in fifth spot was Spring Tide, which went up wide to second after 400m and shared the pace across the top before being left standing the run home. It was the first time this preparation she had missed the top three with six starts prior producing three wins and three placings. Rosewood had in four starts this season so far been going hot and cold but ran a blinder today for sixth beaten just under eleven lengths. The 7yo mare would not hit out at all and was eighth lengths last and detached across the top plus she only caught the field near the home turn. To run on as gamely as she did was a huge effort. The next four runners came home between eleven and a half and twelve and a half lengths with Cherry Lane and Happy Star the pick of the efforts. ' The race was also noted for the $2.40 favourite Demonetization running last and being beaten almost twenty nine lengths. The Australian bred six-year-old gelding began awkwardly but recovered to race midfield and wide albeit surrounded though he stopped badly the run home and ran an absolute shocker. He had in three runs prior this time in won twice and run a blinder for fourth at G2 under WFA so the effort was well out of character. This was an unusual race with almost twenty-nine lengths from first to last and some of the runners clearly never copped the footing. Whether this was a genuine G3 race is very debatable indeed as the wet footing and troubling track clearly paved the way for so many flops and such big margins of defeat.
