WT: 53kg Type: OPEN

She’s Insatiable when in the zone has been dominant as a stayer here at Riccarton in particular and today was way too good at Listed level over 2500m. She has been a revelation in fact as when coming down from a North Island yard had won the single race on a bog in fourteen starts. Fast forward to today and she now has won another five races (on good or dead ground importantly) and three of them have come at 2100m or further. She clocked 2:37.04, which is a long way from the track record of 2:33.04 by Talk Show in 1998, but Riccarton was a slightly different venue back then. The owner/trainer Terrill Charles has done a fine job with She’s Insatiable and now has a realistic chance in the G3 New Zealand Cup (3200m) next week. She has done wonders with many other North Island gallopers sent too her for easier stake earning opportunities but now can ask for higher grade ammunition especially if she wins the NZ Cup. Deliciano made it a quinella for the mares and tried hard but could not repel the winner that had threatened her over the final 100m. Mungo Jerry ran on well from the rear trio for third and is spot on for next week too. Esprit D’Or was rugged as usual for fourth after being in front early then headed by a tearaway type before taking over again 200m out. Juggernaut Rock boxed on and O’Ceirin’s Secret was perhaps one of the worst tactical rides of the day by Jonathan Parkes. His mount had to finish top three to lock in a Cup start next week but after settling down a clear last and an area code away from the leaders he was under the whip before the home turn. He got going late for sixth beaten seven and a half lengths and was the favourite, so again at Riccarton today bettors get a head scratcher and must wonder why they do not deserve and get protection plus a realistic explanation. If the officials, trainer and rider say they do not know then how is the Joe Bloggs punter supposed to know what is going on? Many confounding runs in this and could well end up a total form reversal race next week but then again who knows at the only racetrack in the whole of the South Island to have G1 racing (two this week).
