This G3 1200m Open Handicap sprint saw the first three home all race in or near the pace throughout namely Reilly Lincoln, Signify and Batman. Reilly Lincoln sat outside the leader and grabbed the front at the 300m before drawing away to score by over a length and clock 1:08.12, which sounds fast but down the Riccarton chute is nothing special. The first race on the card today for instance saw a maiden win in 1:07.77 to show the impossible to believe times from 800m to 1200m down the Riccarton chute. It is telling that Reilly Lincoln finished fourth here five days earlier in a Listed event and the fourth finisher in that same race came out and won a G3 event earlier on the card today too. Reilly Lincoln was winning her seventh race from sixteen starts and it was a first blacktype success for the 5yo mare that interestingly has only ever won at 1200m. Signify was ridden forward today and sat behind the leaders on the inner before running home strongly once angled out and gave the winner 4.5kg. Batman led up and fought on well once headed to finish third. Riding Shotgun was the first run on type home and closed nicely late for fourth after being away awkwardly and settling down in the rear. Kinagat was crowded early and did not like being surrounded after that but did reach third briefly at the 200m before wilting a tad to finish fifth. Scapolo did not run on as well as he usually does and maybe the footing was a bit firm carrying 60.5kg. El Chico plugged on late from the back and the rest were well beaten and outclassed. This was not a strong field and lacked depth overall.
