The track at Riccarton today was an awful sludginess slow and the rail was out 4m to cause more manmade bias and bettor bewilderment. This Listed 1200 for the juveniles unsurprising saw two North Island prepared fillies quinella the event and the pair were incredibly dominant on the rest at the line. Secret Allure raced seventh but not far away at all behind the leading wall and then came through fourth turning for home and surged into the lead at the 250m. The filly was clear at the 100m and won by over a length and a quarter and ran 1:11.78, which was a good time on the day using the older horses as a guide. It was her second win in four starts and first at blacktype and the filly clearly likes wet or rain-affected footing. Peaceful was wide near the pace and strode up to lead turning for home before being passed at the 250m but she tried hard to go with the eventual winner. It was a brave second and she too relished the wet footing plus she will not be a maiden for very long if kept in work. Pick Me Up In Rio was fifth and very wide near the pace and the filly went up into second turning for home before being third at the 250m and then ending up distant at the line. She was almost six lengths from the winner but a commendable third indeed and maidens will not hold the filly for very long either. Miss Curious was a massive fourth after being well back and wide then steaming home late to be beaten just over six and a half lengths. She clearly handled the tricky footing and is another winner in waiting. Thunder Bay ran an honest fifth while Hapi Ella in was sixth and very deep on settling so did well not to drop out after such an overlander. Khimar Way raced on the pace and weakened out disappointingly to be beaten over eight lengths. Sweet Oak plugged on from back and wide but was beaten over ten lengths. The rest came home beaten eleven lengths and up to over thirty-five lengths. Interestingly the fourth last and second last finishers namely Devious and Xpressmymind were involved at their prior start in a ridiculous speed dual and blatant attack. Devious savaged Xpressmymind in the lead and the pair went well clear in a 1000m race they were going that fast and both punctured badly, Today was clear proof both have been cooked by that absurd drag racing episode and it is hoped both babies are not soured by such behavior as it can scar younger horses as racehorses such a painful lung-burning incident. Secret Allure and Peaceful have upside and especially on cutting out footing.
