Sir Tristram Fillies Classic (G2)

Age: 3yo Sex: F Type: OPEN

This was an even run G2 over 2000m for 3yo fillies and the rampant manmade track bias at Te Rapa today for those on the pace and especially the inside does mean the result has an asterisk. The 2000m winning time of 2:02.64 was just over a second (six lengths) inferior to the G1 WFA race two races later so compared favourably. Vavasour is a big strapping filly and set a good enough clip to ensure she was never challenged in the running. When tackled the run home she lifted the final stages to repel two solid challenges from rivals running second and third turning in. The stablemates Saavoya and Charmont ran game races for their very much in form yard of Murray Baker and Andrew Forsman and are likely headed to the G1 NZ Oaks (2400m) next month at Trentham. Platinum Witness finished a sound fourth and was still coming at the line so there is more to come for sure as she was second up here and rising 400m plus Te Rapa is the most biased track in New Zealand. When she runs on a normal soil and turf track then her G1 class will shine through again. Palace Rock was okay and is still on a G1 NZ Oaks path like several of these. Realta hugged the fence so may have been flattered by the manmade bias but will pay her way over the autumn in lesser events. Sonsy came wider near the home turn so was better than it can ever be described once you factor in rampant manmade track bias. Tavy can be forgiven as she had no chance from last the outer on settling the way Te Rapa was today and ditto for Exquisite Jewel. De Kensington Oval was poor and dropped out so her bad episode at Ellerslie prior has clearly had an effect on her confidence. Vavasour may still tackle the boys in the G1 NZ Derby and with her on pace style she can counter any track or race pattern bias as able to settle handy too then pounce.
