This G2 3yo over 1400m was won easily by Harlech and contested on a Te Rapa track that had the Rail out 2m and all winners came well off the inside lanes the run home that were blatantly slower. No favourite won all day and on the nine-race card six of the winners were double figures ($12 to $24) so punters copped a deadest pounding on a clearly manmade biased presented track. The winners and where they turned for home in race order were led (four-off the inside and a head in front), tenth (four-off the inside and three and a half lengths from the leader), thirteenth (six-off the inside and five lengths from the leader), second (two-off the inside and a neck from the leader), seventh (five-off the inside and six lengths from the leader), eighth (six-off the inside and three lengths from the leader), fifth (four-off the inside and two and a half lengths from the leader), eighth (eight-off the inside and three and a half lengths from the leader) and fourth (four-off and two lengths from the leader). Harlech settled back on the inner but worked well away from the inside importantly near the home turn and came up fifth before surging with good purpose. The colt led at the 150m and drew out to win well by a length and a half in 1:23.29 to record his second win in five starts and it was his first Blacktype success too. He paid over $12 a win but scored in the manner of an odds on pop and he relished the cutting out track. Run To Perfection was crowded at the start and settled down last on his own but stormed home for second and the Australian bred colt was only having his third start and in fact was just out of maidens today. Bella Mente was one of eight fillies in the fourteen-horse field and she raced handy wide before getting second the outer and she fought well to be beaten less than a length and three-quarters. She's A Lady another filly was wide on the pace then led before being headed at the 150m and finishing fourth beaten just over two lengths in what was a sound effort. Chiaretta, yet another filly, raced sixth then eighth between runners and ran on well for fifth once balanced up and into clear air. Double Impact, the clear second favourite, was crowded at the start and settled back tenth surrounded but fought on okay closer in along the inferior lanes to be sixth beaten just under three lengths. Equinox was odds on after a huge second to the top 3yo Catalyst and then an easy wet track win under 58.5kg against his own age. He raced close to the pace on the inner and weakened the run home closer in to be a very ordinary seventh beaten almost five lengths. Cinzento was not too bad after being wide the whole way, as she could have given up and dropped out but did not. Manchu was fifth or sixth wide working and paid the price while the rest got beaten seven lengths and up to almost thirty-four lengths. There are a lot of forgives in this race and result owing to the track presentation and how it raced but also because you can always forget a flop at Te Rapa with the massive sand-slitting kickback that makes many racehorses not try let alone perform at all. Lots of future winners from this race for sure back to normal soil and grass tracks. The winner Harlech was superior by double his winning margin and the colt has it all ahead while the runner up Run To Perfection was stupendous and too is a colt with scope galore.
