The winner was the class act in the Australian bred Advantage, which raced sixth the inner then got away from the inside and loomed up third and ominous turning for home. She accelerated to reach second at the 250m and then hauled in a race fit leader Tavi Mac that was going for three wins in a row this time in. The winners and were they turned for home on the day were third (four-off the inside and a length from the leader), tenth (eight-off the inside and three lengths from the leader), third (six-off the inside and length and a half from the leader), eighth (four-off the inside and five lengths from the leader), led (two lengths clear and one-off the inside), third (six-off the inside and half a length from the leader), fourth (on the inner and three lengths behind the leader), third (four-off the inside and a length and a half from the leader), second (seven-off the inside and a length and a half from the leader) and fifth (eight-off the inside and three lengths from the leader). Advantage was never in really any doubt and has the Triple Crown at Hastings at her mercy should she tackle all three of the events. She has a G1 edge over her opponents and today clocked 1:10.40 and was winning her eleventh race from just eighteen starts. The now 5yo mare has won on all types of footing except Slow ground but she has only tried that twice and both times came in the stronger fields of Australia. Tavi Mac ran a game runner up after a sluggish start then being burned up third wide after 200m and then into second the outer on settling. He would take the lead at the 350m and only be headed the final 50m by a more talented galloper. The 5yo gelding has won seven of his eleven outings and the fact he has raced twice and won both his starts this season already prior clearly helped. He has won on all types off footing it should be noted at this point. Third home was a game Prise De Fer, which had raced seventh the outer and was wide before the home turn and still sixth at the 200m. The fact he kept coming and reached third at the 25m was a good sign albeit he was four and a half lengths from the winner at the line. Demonetization ran home powerfully for fourth after being wide in the rear trio on settling and still second last turning for home. He really unleashed hard the closing stages and raced into fourth with just 10m to go, having still being eighth with 100m left to run. Pop Star Princess sped to lead early and once headed at the 300m by the eventual runner up was then back to third at the 250m when the winner went by her. She was only swamped the final 25m of that position. Kiwi Ida ran a game sixth beaten six lengths after never being on the race track back and four-wide before let stride up wider the outer the run home. She kept coming gamely to be fifth at the 200m and 100m and fought well with the eventual fourth finisher surging by her late. Julius missed the first four for first time in his career today with an honest seventh, after racing fifth between runners and then being wide at the 600m. He reached fourth at the 200m but could not ping and was found post race to be red raw on all his bumpers. Dawn Patrol was a modest eighth after racing fourth the inner early while Vancooga ran on late for eighth after being in the rear trio the inner on settling. Travelleing Light was a shade disappointing after being back and wide but she did run on okay late so a little bit further is what she is looking for at this stage. The rest battled late or wilted bar the last finisher Aretha that dropped right out after being second early and then third across the top. She was found to lame in a right fore leg and suffering an irregular heartbeat post race so had her issues. The winner is a class above this lot and won three of her last four races at G1 and handles almost all types of footing plus she won up to 2000m last season so has this Triple Crown under control.
